Steve Eichert has a post today about how to portray a one-man firm on his web site.

I've fought with this one as well.  Should I be vague about how big my company is or should I be 100% up-front that it's only me?  The fact is, if I need more people on a project, I can get them, so I feel justified in saying “we”, but then again, I don't like the idea of someone expecting more than I can offer.

When I worked for a mid-size consulting firm, we'd go into meetings with a minimum of 4 people (sales weasel, a couple of techies and a manager).  That's not something I can do (or want to do).

Of course, I believe I lost out on a good gig because I am just one person.  I am confident I could have provided that particular client with a great solution at a reasonable cost.  Unfortunately, I was never given the chance.

I'll also take the time (like Steve did) to say that I'm available if anyone needs a .NET Consultant. :-)
