We were out the door around 5:54 Saturday morning. The trip was pretty un-eventful thanks to our portable DVD player. :-) The kids were really good for the 6 hour trip. They actually didn't sleep much, maybe an hour or two the entire trip.
We were surprised at all the freakin' tolls through Chicago. I'll take my Michigan gas tax anyday over having to stop every few miles to pay a damn toll.
The temperature kept dropping as we got closer to Wisconsin. It turns out this was the coldest weekend this season. The temp hovered in the low single digits, but was below 0 with the wind chill.
We got to my sister-in-laws in Oregon, WI at just after noon (our time; EST). We hung out (and checked out their new baby) for awhile before heading to Madison for lunch. After lunch (and a short wait), we got into our room on the 7th floor (Executive level) of the Sheraton on the south side of Madison. It was a nice room, but no high-speed internet. Wait, let me correct myself. They did have high-speed internet, but only through the freakin' TV. :-\ Whatever. That would have been Ok, but it wasn't free. I wasn't about to pay $10 just to check email.
That evening we at ate a restaurant called Uno's. My wife and I had steak and shrimp. It was good (much better then the lunch we had). After that, we collapsed at the hotel until Sunday morning. We promised our daughter some time at the pool, so at 7am, we were all at the pool. The water was a bit cool, but our daughter didn't care.
We spent another hour with my wife's sister, husband and new baby before we hit to road to come home. We left around noon EST. We stopped in Janesville, WI for lunch. After a quick stop for gas and snacks, we were on our way. Our daughter ended up sleeping 4 hours on the way home. The boy slept around 2.5! Woohoo! Instead of listening to Disney movies, we actually got to listen to music and talk! Woohoo!
We made it home in record time! From start to finish, including lunch and a couple of stops, we were home at 5:30EST!
Overall, it was a fun trip. We'd like to go back when we can spend more time. I'd like to see the capital and maybe stop at a cheese shop (after all, it is Wisconsin). Maybe this summer.
Our kids were great (they always are) and it was nice seeing our new nephew.
